3/10 - Body temperature measured based on student lists on Lanyang Campus

Campus nurse managed an attentive observation to health status among students with a daily 12-hour shift.

To prevent and control the proliferation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, Lanyang campus has initiated overall pandemic precautionary actions upon the new semester started on March 2nd. A strict regulation of mandatory temperature screening performed by the campus staff was applied to all visitors by vehicles at entrance to the campus, and those entering a teaching and administration building. Individuals shall be excluded from the campus if their temperature readings reach 37.5 °C.
 
Lanyang campus marshalled administrative staff to aid in temperature screening of all faculty and students between 09:00 and 17:00 on a daily basis. Due to the residential collegiate system adopted by the campus, the temperature screening measure was proceeded with distribution of the students respectively to the screening checkpoints set up in the 3rd and the 5th floor. The students from the faculties of International Tourism Management, Global Politics and Economics were directed to the 3rd floor, while the students of the Department of Innovative Information and Technology as well as the Department of English Language and Culture were rerouted to the 5th floor; during 17:00 to 19:00, all the students on campus were assembled in the 5th floor. Pao Cheng-Hao, positioned as the administrator of pandemic prevention on Lanyang campus and also Dean of the College of Global Development, stated that all student population on Lanyang campus has body temperature measured in accordance with roll call lists. Each inspected student must be marked down with a temperature reading recorded right after measurement to ensure the completion of temperature check. Pao also shared the current status of temperature check performance on campus, which has been on track without any special cases appearing. The campus staff were assigned shifts to conduct the check in line with regulation, among whom Yu Yan-Chun was in charge of health care and sanitary, voluntarily supported the conduction for a total of 12 hours per week to intimately observe and manage students’ health conditions owing to her concerns. Pao showed his appreciation to all staffs’ joint efforts and utmost cooperation with the pandemic prevention measures to unite and navigate through this pandemic crisis.
 
Concerning the educational response to the pandemic, Pao indicated, “ The connection of online lectures has been rather stable and students have been in a good learning state. There were random reports about device issues such as microphones being incapable of amplifying sound, but the technical staff on Lanyang campus would help tackle the issues.” Pao also mentioned about the concerns of the teaching staff regarding reuse of microphone sets in classrooms, in response, disinfection was enforced using alcohol prior to and subsequent to each lecture; in case of the lecturers with their self-provided microphones, the technical staff on hand would assist in the associated device settings to reassure the entire teaching team on delivering lectures with safety. 
 
With regard to the status of juniors studying abroad in this academic year, Pao explained that the major participants of the junior abroad programme on Lanyang campus opted for the United States for studying, and have yet received any response from parents or students in regards to the pandemic. A junior abroad report system, communication groups, mentor counseling and various methods were put into service on campus for the purpose of tracking and mentoring students overseas regularly. The campus staff has been doing its utmost to handle demands of students during the severe pandemic period.
