11/8 - The Inaugural Ceremony of Bistro Penseur on Lanyang Campus

  • 2017-11-08
The Penseur Bistro, a specific space reserved for the residential academy was officially inaugurated at the noon of 8 November, 2017. The banner was unveiled together by the Lanyang Campus Provost, Jyh-horng Lin, and the Dean of College of Global Development, Ay-hwa Andy Liou. Provost, Jyh-horng Lin stated that “the goals of the campus at the beginning had already been: going abroad in the third year, all English-taught programs, and residential college. Later on, following international trends, residential college transformed into residential academy. In the recent years, the different kinds of activities held by the academy were highly praised by the honoured domestic and international guests.” He continued, “this small space demonstrates the devotion in the past thirteen years and mean a lot for the higher education.” Dean Ay-hwa Liou appreciated Assistant Professor Ying-Lung Chou’s efforts on planning this space. He hoped the professors and students could utilise this space well.
Many people thought there would be a new restaurant and came for a taste. In fact, this bistro does not sell food nor coffee. Instead, it offers scholarly atmosphere and intellectual cuisines created together by the professors and students. This place aims to achieve the goal, “wherever there are professors and students, it is the classroom.” “Le Penseur” was a famous sculpture by Auguste Rodin. “Bistro” is a common place for people to gather up in Europe. Thanks for the Provost and Dean’s establishment for the “Bistro Penseur”, where professors and students can conduct intellectual activities such as playing documentaries, sharing ideas, and managing study groups. The ceremony was finished in a merry atmosphere.
